Current Obsession: Accessories Spr11-1

I’ve fnally decided to write a series of articles on fashion pieces that I (PERSONALLY) covet at various points of time, in the hope of building my wardrobe in a nonrandom fashion. The debut will be attributed to accessories that appear early in the spring catalogue.

1. Romanticizing Shades -

I am never a sunglasses person, which means my search for ideal sunglasses will come to an end once every classic shape is collected and ready to go. Now I’m only one step away, with that one step being cat-eye. However, my heart falls once in a while for those little beauties that no one could resist. These Dolce sunglasses with floral printed frame are a perfect alternative if you, like me, are having a hard time fitting in the general trend of massive/psychedelic prints and think they are tacky.  Pair it with any clean and soft outfit, and leave the story to texture and weaving.

2. Invigorating Leopard -

I was talking to Michael in the YSL store the other day about these scarves, when, for the second time in a short time, he got so happy that he wrapped it around his own neck and looked ecstatic…Leopard is reinvented into something neither boring nor prohibitive. The deformation and the bleach give it the right amount of variation and surprise. Not to mention the violet color that pops up tbe everyday palette of black and white.

3. A feminine touch on something masculine -

When my mom asked me what I wanted for new year present I said driving gloves, you can’t go wrong with driving gloves. Now these Vuittons are even cooler with chains and jewels dangling around. She didn’t got those for me in the end, which is good, because I get to keep the sweet hunt to myself.

4. When exotics go fresh and elegant -

One of the charms of the YSL spring/summer 2011 runway collection is that it brings together Sahara and Barcelona, imo. These Baobab platform sandals come in organge and teal; and they are the last to hit stor so I only saw a sample pair. On the side, the giant python wedge is totally wild, but then on top you get something completely refined and delicate. To me there’s another plus: the (architectual) split wedge is an substantial improvement from the previous “Woodstock” sandals which I almost wanted except for their ugly, separate platform with no elevation.

Now I know these will come at a hefty price around $2,000. But nothing seems to attract my attention in the prefall and fall/winter collection. And after that, who knows if we can still survive..

5. Make the trench swing -

 In this Fendi trench, I wanted to to do nothing but listen to Jennifer Connelly singing Sway  in Dark City. I can see the lady saying goodbye to her beloved one in the rain, or running withouth a destination, in a Jean-Luc Godard movie. It’s not that it’s sad, it’s the comedy, the light weight of the silk and the flaring pleats. It’s the melodrama.

6. In the cold light of morning -

I love translucency. I love the round shoulders, the barely-there collars, the baggy sleeves. I love the feel that everything is brought back to the prenatal stage, when you see the world through a memebrane, not touching or touched by a thing. Like the first few gleams of the sun, like I’m running through a dewy field. How could something feel extraterristrial and organic at the same time? Guess I just love translucency too much looool.
